Small company, big dreams – how Enterprise Ireland is helping SMEs go global

Partner Content: Executive education initiative, Dynamic Leadership, a Roadmap to Growth, is designed to give Irish SMEs the tools they need to grow strongly outside of Ireland

To truly scale, Irish businesses need to look to international markets, but setting out on that road can be challenging for smaller companies. Success is all about the right insight and know-how.

SMEs are now being primed to grow strongly outside of Ireland with a new executive education initiative designed to give them world-class leadership skills.

Dynamic Leadership: a Roadmap to Growth is a cutting-edge development programme intended to equip senior leadership teams at ambitious businesses with the tools, strategies, and insights they need for sustainable growth.

Launched last week by Enterprise Ireland in partnership with Dublin City University, the programme builds on the success of an earlier initiative, Go Global 4 Growth, which ran from 2016.

More than 600 leaders from 172 companies have been coached through that programme on how to make it big globally.

Dynamic Leadership is aimed at chief executives and other company leaders from across sectors who are committed to adapting and evolving vital business functions to prepare for global growth.

The programme incorporates key learning modules on sensing growth opportunities, seizing competitive advantages, and transforming businesses through innovation and sustainability.

Delivered through a mixture of online learning and in-person sessions at DCU Business School over an eight-month period, the Dynamic Leadership programme will also include one-to-one coaching sessions.

Participants will also benefit from dedicated growth advisers, peer-networking opportunities and access to a thriving alumni network

With a focus on innovation and sustainability, the initiative effectively helps future-proof companies, providing them with a key differentiator to help them stand out. The programme costs €12,000 for a team of three from a company, which must include the CEO. Larger groups can potentially be accommodated.

The current iteration of Dynamic Leadership – Roadmap to Growth sees participation from 51 senior managers from 15 firms across sectors such as construction, digital tech, food, sustainability, engineering and fintech.

Among the firms who have gone on to grow their businesses overseas after taking part in Go Global 4 Growth are well-known SMEs such as luxury jewellery brand Chupi, Wicklow Wolf Brewery Banagher Concrete, and Osborne Recruitment.

Dynamic Leadership builds on Go Global’s track record by incorporating world-class executive education, hands-on mentorship, and actionable strategies, to foster leadership skills, innovation, and a growth mindset.

Doing this ensures that businesses can deal with the key challenges that affect SMEs, including scaling up, leadership capability, access to finance, digital transformation, and market penetration.

For a small nation, Ireland punches well above its weight in terms of innovation, with small-to-medium enterprises (SMEs) accounting for 99.8pc of all Irish businesses.

They are the backbone of our economy and their ability to innovate, grow, and expand internationally is critical to Ireland’s long-term economic success.

By fostering leadership excellence, strategic decision-making, and innovation, Enterprise Ireland plans to empower SMEs to achieve sustained success both locally and globally.
